The target of 290 appeared to be stiff, especially when India were wobbling at 35 for 2 in the ninth over, but Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh maintained their sang froid to get India close before the adventurous Suresh Raina sealed the win in style. Kohli, in particular, impressed. He not only lost Yuvraj in the 34th over with India still 118 runs adrift of the target but also, by then, was suffering from severe cramps and was forced to bat with a runner. Batting was expected to be difficult on a slow and low pitch in Providence but the touch artist Mahela Jayawardene sparkled with a delightful ton, only the fourth batsman to hit a Twenty20 hundred, to charge Sri Lanka to 173. Rain washed out England's fate

England will surely concede them unlucky as their mighty total has been washed out by rain. Winning the toss West Indian Skipper Chris Gayle decided to bowl first. England put into bat starts with fireworks and hold on to continue. Opener Kiss wetter and Lumb was really aggressive to prove West Indian bowlers ordinary. West Indies came back a bit in the middle of the innings. But Eoin Morgan and Luke Right was too good for WI to finish the innings with a great manner. England's innings ended up with 191 run in twenty over. West Indians comes to chase the big score and start with some big shots. After 2.2 over, rain had stopped the game. বললেই হলো! অস্ট্রেলিয়ান ইনিংসের শেষ ওভারটাই তো এই ম্যাচের 'সব'। ম্যাচের ফলাফলে বিন্দুমাত্র ভূমিকা না রাখার পরও!
অস্ট্রেলিয়া হেসেখেলে জিতেছে। শেন ওয়াটসন-ডেভিড হাসি দারুণ ব্যাটিং করেছেন। বোশেজোর যে উইকেটে বাকি সব দল স্পিনকে বড় অস্ত্র ভাবছে, বৈচিত্র্য থাকলে যে সেখানেও পেসারদের ভাত আছে, তা প্রমাণ করেছেন টেইট-জনসনরা। কিন্তু এসব আর কদিন মনে থাকবে!
টি-টোয়েন্টি এমনিতেই মনে থাকে না। এমন ম্যাড়মেড়ে সমাপ্তি হলে তো আরও না। গত পরশু অস্ট্রেলিয়া-পাকিস্তান ম্যাচ থেকে স্মৃতি শুধু ধরে রাখবে মোহাম্মদ আমিরের ওই শেষ ওভারটাই। প্রথম বলে হাডিনকে ফিরিয়ে দিয়ে শুরু, তখন কল্পনাও করা যায়নি কী নাটকের সূচনা সেটি। পরের বলে ইয়র্কারে বোল্ড জনসন। হ্যাটট্রিকের সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে আমির। তৃতীয় বলেও উইকেট পড়ল, তবে হ্যাটট্রিক হলো না। বাই রান নিতে নিয়ে রানআউট মাইক হাসি। পরের বলেও সেটির রিপ্লে, এবার রানআউট স্টিভ স্মিথ। পঞ্চম বলটি ডট, শেষ বলে টেইট বোল্ড!
৫ উইকেটে ১৯১ থেকে অস্ট্রেলিয়া ১৯১ অলআউট! এমন ঘটনা আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটে দেখে থাকতেও পারে। তবে 'ফাইভ উইকেটস মেডেন' দেখল এই প্রথম। শহীদ আফ্রিদি কোনো পর্যায়ের ক্রিকেটেই কখনো তা দেখেননি। মাইকেল ক্লার্কও না। ওই ওভারটির কথা বলার সময়ও অস্ট্রেলিয়ান অধিনায়ক হাসতে পারলেন, কারণ ম্যাচ জিতেছে তাঁর দল। এক ওভারে ৫ উইকেট হারিয়েও টি-টোয়েন্টি জেতাটাও তো একটা রেকর্ড! টেস্ট-ওয়ানডেতেও কি জিতেছে কোনো দল?
ভুতুড়ে এক ওভার। দুটি রানআউট যেটিতে যোগ করেছে বাড়তি নাটকীয়তা। ৫টি উইকেটই আমির পেলে অবশ্যই ওভারটি আরও অতিপ্রাকৃতের রূপ পেত। আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটে কারোরই তো তা নেই। পরপর চার বলে উইকেট আছে শ্রীলঙ্কান ফাস্ট বোলার লাসিথ মালিঙ্গার। ২০০৭ বিশ্বকাপে দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার বিপক্ষে মালিঙ্গার ওই ডাবল হ্যাটট্রিক। টেস্ট ক্রিকেটে পাঁচ বলে ৪ উইকেট আছে তিনজনের—নিউজিল্যান্ডের মরিস অ্যালম, ইংল্যান্ডের ক্রিস ওল্ড ও আমিরকে যাঁর উত্তরসূরি ভাবা হচ্ছে সেই ওয়াসিম আকরামের। এর মধ্যে মরিস অ্যালমেরই শুধু হ্যাটট্রিক আছে। ওল্ড ও আকরামের চার উইকেটের ঠিক মাঝখানে একটি ডট বল।
সংবাদ সম্মেলনে মোহাম্মদ আমিরকে পেলে খুব ভালো হতো। ওই ওভারটির সময় কেমন লেগেছে—এই প্রশ্নের উত্তর এক শব্দেই দিয়ে দিয়েছেন শহীদ আফ্রিদি, 'গুড'। আমির এলে উত্তরটা নিশ্চয়ই আরও বিস্তারিত হতো। টি-টোয়েন্টির শেষ ওভারে মেডেনই যেখানে বিরাট ঘটনা, '৫ উইকেট মেডেন' তো কল্পনারও সীমা ছাড়ানো। খেলার মূল মজাও বোধহয় এটাই। কখন যে কী অবিশ্বাস্য কাণ্ড ঘটিয়ে সবাইকে নাড়িয়ে দেয়!
টি-টোয়েন্টি ক্রিকেট সম্পর্কে সবচেয়ে বড় সমালোচনা, এখানে নাটক নেই। খেলোয়াড়দের চরিত্রটা বেরিয়ে আসার মতো সময়ই যে নেই এখানে। আমিরের ওই ওভারটিকে তাই মনে হচ্ছে এই টি-টোয়েন্টি বিশ্বকাপের সঞ্জীবনীও। টি-টোয়েন্টিতেও নাটকীয় কিছু দেখতে চাও—দেখে নাও।
মাইকেল ক্লার্কও ব্যাপারটা 'উপভোগ' করতে পারছেন, সেটি ইনিংসের মাঝখানে ঘটেনি বলে। ওই ওভারে ভুতুড়ে সব কাণ্ডকীর্তি শুরু হওয়ার আগেই তো জয় নিশ্চিত করে ফেলেছে অস্ট্রেলিয়া। জয় দিয়ে শুরু করাটা খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ছিল ক্লার্কের কাছে। টি-টোয়েন্টির অস্ট্রেলিয়ায় টেস্ট এবং ওয়ানডের পরাক্রম নেই। গত দুটি বিশ্বকাপের কোনোটি জেতা দূরে থাক, সেমিফাইনালেও ওঠা হয়নি। এটাকে চাপের বদলে অনুপ্রেরণা হিসেবে দেখতে চান ক্লার্ক, 'শুধু বিশ্বকাপ কেন, সব মিলিয়েও টি-টোয়েন্টিতে আমাদের রেকর্ড খুব একটা ভালো নয়। তবে গত ১২ মাসে আমরা অনেক উন্নতি করেছি। এই টুর্নামেন্টের সাত দিন আগে এখানে এসে খুব ভালো প্রস্তুতি নিয়েছি। এবার আমরা জিততে চাই।'

চাওয়াটা এতই তীব্র যে, বাংলাদেশের বিপক্ষে শেষ গ্রুপ ম্যাচটিকেও মহাগুরুত্বপূর্ণ বলে ভাবছেন। 'টি-টোয়েন্টিতে যেকোনো দলেরই সুযোগ আছে। কদিন আগে জিম্বাবুয়েই তো আমাদের হারিয়ে দিল! বাংলাদেশ দলে দারুণ কিছু টি-টোয়েন্টি খেলোয়াড় আছে। আছে আক্রমণাত্মক কয়েকজন ব্যাটসম্যান। বারবাডোজে গিয়ে কন্ডিশন দেখে আমরা বাংলাদেশ দলকে নিয়ে চুলচেরা বিশ্লেষণ করব। মাঠেও নামব সেরা দল নিয়েই।'
সেন্ট লুসিয়ার এই ধীর উইকেটেই তিন পেসার, বারবাডোজের গতিময় বাউন্সি উইকেটে কি তা হলে যোগ হচ্ছে আরেক জন? ক্লার্ক সম্ভাবনাটা উড়িয়ে দিচ্ছেন না, 'হতেও পারে। আমাদের চার ফাস্ট বোলার একই রকম নয়। গতির তারতম্য আছে, বৈচিত্র্য আছে। আমরা তাই চার জনকেই খেলানোর কথা ভাবতেই পারি।'

Ashraful's brave innings could not protect the defeat for Bangladesh in ICC World T20

Pakistan would be relieved team as they have managed to escape from a defeat against Bangladesh. Pakistan winning the toss elected to bat first and their openers were very much on dominating position with a partnership of around 140 runs. But Bangladesh came back in the last five over. They conceded only 34 runs in those over and picked up three wickets. Chasing a big total of 173 run Bangladesh lost their openers too early.
